Privacy Policy
GetCheers helps people who are out tonight find each other. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
1. Who we are
GetCheers ("we", "us") runs the GetCheers app and getcheers.app. Questions or requests: hello@getcheers.app.
2. What we collect
- Account: email, password (stored securely by our authentication provider, never readable by us), first name, age and, if you choose, gender. Gender is private and only used for women-only spaces.
- Profile: photos, your note for tonight and anything else you add.
- Location: the pin you drop on the map. By default it is approximate (the area, not your exact spot). Your exact position is shown only if you turn on Live mode, and only for that night.
- Activity: Cheers, matches, chats, waves you join, venue check-ins, reviews, reports and blocks.
- Verification selfie: if you request the verified badge. It is stored privately and used only to check that you are a real person.
- Device and app data: a push-notification token, crash reports and basic usage analytics to keep the app working and improve it.
- Waitlist: if you join on getcheers.app, your email, city, language and your consent to receive launch emails.
- Venues: business contact details and the venue information you publish (photos, menu, events).
What we don't collect: Safe Night trusted contacts are stored only on your phone and never sent to us. SOS and "home safe" messages are sent from your own phone by you, through your own SMS or messaging app.
3. Why we use it
- To run the service: show you on the map, deliver Cheers and chats, open matches, and let you check in at venues (performance of our contract with you).
- To keep people safe: verification, women-only spaces, reports, blocks, SOS alerts to venue staff when you are checked in there, and fighting abuse (our legitimate interest in a safe community).
- To send launch news and your Founder invite, only if you agreed (consent, which you can withdraw anytime).
- To fix bugs and improve the app with crash reports and aggregated analytics (legitimate interest).
- To meet legal obligations, for example responding to lawful requests.
4. Gone by morning
Pins, chats and messages, Sparks, waves and venue check-ins expire at 6 AM local time and are removed from the app. Some records are kept longer only where needed: reports and blocks (for safety), your account and profile (until you delete them), reviews (until you delete them or your account) and the waitlist (until you unsubscribe).
5. Who sees what
- Other users see your profile and your approximate pin while you are on the map. Ghost mode hides you completely.
- Venues see how many guests are checked in, never a list of names. If you press SOS while checked in, that venue's staff see your first name and photo so they can find you.
- Service providers that run parts of GetCheers for us: database and hosting (Supabase), push notifications (Expo), crash reports (Sentry), analytics (PostHog), maps (Stadia Maps, OpenStreetMap) and website hosting and forms (Netlify). They may only use your data to provide their service to us.
Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. When they do, we rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Delete my account; this erases your profile, matches, chats and photos. For anything else, email hello@getcheers.app. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in Spain, the AEPD).
7. Age
GetCheers is only for people aged 18 and over. We delete accounts we learn belong to someone younger.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit, access rules that limit who can read each piece of data, and private storage for sensitive files like verification selfies. No system is perfect, so please use a strong, unique password.
9. Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
